Obituary of Faye Spears
Her funeral service has also been changed and now will be held to Thursday, Sept. 29 at 2o'clock at the funeral Home.
It is with great sadness that the family of Phyllis Faye (MacLean) Spears, 85, announce her peaceful passing surrounded by loved ones at the Aberdeen Regional Hospital on September 21, 2022.
Born May 1st, 1937 on the Magdalene Islands to parents Francis (Frank) and Effie MacLean, she was the youngest of seven siblings and moved to Westville at the age of two.
On a blind date at the age of 17 Faye met her husband, lifelong dance partner and future fellow CB radio club member, Clarence Spears. Together, they eventually settled in Sylvester where they raised their loving family and completed their home with two cats, Frisker and Thomas C. Throughout their 65 happy years of marriage, 35 years were spent surrounded by great friends as seasonals at Seafoam Campground.
Faye was a dedicated member and volunteer of the St Bee’s Anglican Church and the Stellarton Legion. Proudly serving as colour bearer, Sergeant-of-Arms and many years in the Women’s Auxiliary. A highlight of each week was the legion dance with her beloved Clarence aka “Big Red”. “Lady Spark’s” life was filled with fun, friends, food (lobster) and laughter. Playing darts competitively, enjoying washer toss and swimming at the shore. At the end of every summer season, Faye eagerly awaited the re-opening of the campground and returning to the trailer. Mom’s infectious smile warmed all those around her.
Faye was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by her parents and siblings, Erma, Ada, Harold (Oran), Arthur, Nicholas (Nick), Chesley (Ches), and Burns.
Faye’s memory lives on in the love of her life, Clarence Spears. Along with her children: Linda MacQuarrie (Ricky), Gail Coldwell (Robbie), and Darrell Spears (Melanie MacCara). Known fondly as “Nanny”, her loving grandchildren: Jason, Christopher, Matthew, Stephen, Marcus, Sarah, Benjamin, Jeremy, Liam, and Merrilee. As well as great grandchildren: Dylan, Kelsey, Bryden, Emma, Charlie, William, Gracie, Carson, Marley, Jacob, and Sylvia.
Our most sincere thanks to the doctors and nurses at the Aberdeen Hospital, Palliative Care Unit, Transitional Care Unit, 4 Medicine and VON for their compassion and care.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Faye’s memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the MS Society.
Faye is resting at Eagles Funeral Home with visiting on Wednesday, Sept.28 from 6-8 pm. Her funeral service will be held on 2 o’clock, Thursday Sept. 29 from Eagles Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Darlene Jewers officiating. Interment will be in Heatherdale memorial Gardens. Masks are asked to be worn for both the visitation and funeral service.
