Obituary of Elaine Reid

Elaine Reid; died peacefully at her home in home in Riverton on Sunday November 6th, 2022; after a brief illness.  She was the daughter of the late Hughena (Holley) and Fraser Reid.  She was predeceased by her only brother Wayne Reid.  They were a close family and she talked about them a lot, missed seeing them particularly in her later years.  Besides her parents and brother, she was predeceased by her very close friend, Rey Machielson and her fur baby, Seymour.

Elaine spent her very young years in Eureka then her family moved to Trenton prior to going to school.  She attended schools in Trenton until she started to stay home to take care of her mother and she baby sat children near the family home.   She liked to talk of her escapades as a young woman, particularly about a young man who drove a powder blue car.  We were never sure if it was the car or the man, she liked better.  She maintained a lifelong friendship with Mary Lou Coady, who it was reported she taught to drive when Elaine herself may not have had a clue known how to do so. Elaine knew how to have fun.

When her mother died, Elaine faced many hardships; she overcame them to become the woman we knew the last 25 years she lived at Riverview.  She was kind and welcoming, making many friendships, helping both new and old staff learn the meaning of caring.  She asked for little and gave lots.  She was a cancer survivor for twelve years and beat the odds of a cancer that challenged her.  She was the first to a party, the last to leave; unless she felt it was not a good one.  She loved all children, cats, and most people.   She liked the outdoors, her alone time and liked to be around people when she chose to be.  She loved to look good, loved bright colors with flowers and was always dressed as if she were going to be going somewhere special – a girl never knows when they will be going out.  Elaine was always grateful, appreciative, and fiercely independent, truly an example of how to live life.

She will be missed by her close friend, Mary Lou Coady, who could not have been more supportive over the years and her many friends at Evergreen and the Riverview Community as a whole, and some distant cousins.

A celebration of her life will be held at Riverview at a date to be determined.  There will be no visitation. .A graveside committal service for Elaine will be held 2 o'clock Wednesday November 30 at Riverton Cemetery with Rev. Bonnie Langille officiating.
