Obituary of Bill MacLean
With treasured memories of a life well lived, and hearts full of sadness, the family of Bill MacLean announce his passing on October 12, 2010, in Middle Sackville.
Born April 2, 1921, in Pictou County, he was a son of the late James and Josephine (Crest) MacLean.
Bill was an overseas Veteran of the Second World War, and he was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for 60 years. He retired from The Motor Vehicle Branch as a Senior Bus Inspector. Some of his many hobbies included hunting, fishing, flee marketing, auctions and going to his card parties, but his favourite thing of all was spending time with his family. He was a loving father, grandfather, and true friend.
Bill was the last surviving member of his immediate family and is survived by his sons, Barry (Pat), Middle Sackville; Bill (Denise), B.C.; and daughter, Lynn Murphy (John), Lower Sackville. He is also survived by grandchildren Heather MacLean, California, Kelly Murphy (Josh Tree), Truro; Desiree Knaack (Rory); Daren (Tina), Tyson, and Dustin MacLean, all of B.C.; and Mike Murphy of Lower Sackville; great-grandchildren, Tasia, Kiah, Kayla and Kassidy, all of B.C.
He was predeceased by his wife, Marion (MacLeod); brothers, Ed, Bob and Arnold; and great-granddaughter Olivia Tree.
Visitations will be held 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville. The Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 35, Westville will conduct a service at 6:30 Thursday at the Funeral Home. A celebration of Bill’s life will be held at 2 o’clock Friday at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Gairloch with Rev. Gary Tonks officiating. Burial will be in the St. Andrews Cemetery, Gairloch. Family flowers only. Donations in Bill’s memory may be made to The Canadian Cancer Society, The Last Post Fund Nova Scotia Branch, St. Andrew’s Cemetery, Gairloch, or a charity of choice.
