Obituary of Stewart Leithead
Earl “Stewart” Leithead, 83, Westville, passed away peacefully Tuesday, December 27, 2022 at the Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care Unit, New Glasgow, with his family by his side.
Born in New Glasgow, he was the son of the late Earl Henry and Frances Nellie Leithead.
Stewart married his high school sweetheart, Sally, in 1958, were lifelong residents of Westville and had two daughters, Sherma and Sherida. He loved sports, especially baseball and hockey where he would spend his spare time watching on TV. He was heavily involved with the Heather Figure Skating Club where he played the music and travelled all over Canada cheering on his daughters, he was their biggest fan. In his golden age, you could always find him at the senior skates at the New Glasgow Stadium. Stewart studied plumbing in Sydney and worked as a plumber for 43 years with the former MacKay’s Heating & Plumbing, New Glasgow until his retirement in 1997. He also enjoyed movies, especially the classics, going to the theatre and reading books about WWI and WWII.
Stewart was always there to help friends, family and neighbours with anything they needed. Known to many as “Puppy”, he was a kind, loving, funny and amazing son, brother, father, grand/great grandfather and friend.
Surviving are daughters, Sherma (Paul) Hughes, Kentville; Sherida (Bill Chace) Leithead, Westville; granddaughters, Jacey (Kelley Rowan) Hughes, Kentville; Maddie (Brandon) Gallant, Halifax; Kinley & Kenzie Blackadar, Westville; grandson, Eli (Grace Kenny) Hughes , Kentville; great-granddaughter, Eloise Gallant; great-grandson, Hughie Gallant; sister, Chalene (Dave) MacInnis, sisters-in-law, Judy Lemieux; Ann Marie MacNaughton; brothers-in-law, Ron “Butch” (Evelyn) MacNaughton; Jim Lemieux; nieces Bronwyn, Michelle, Sarah, Brittany; nephews David, Paul.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Sarah “Sally” Margaret (MacNaughton); brother-in-law, James “Jimmy” MacNaughton.
A special thank you to Dr. Rivera, Dr. Kwasnik, Dr. Farrell, Dr. Kevin Schnare, nursing staff of the Palliative Care Unit, VON, Continuing Care, Red Cross for all the care, compassion and guidance provided.
In keeping with Stewarts wishes, there will be a family visitation only. A graveside service will be held at Auburn Cemetery, Westville at a later date.
