Obituary of Jean Sarson

Jean Sarson, 90, died peacefully May 3, 2023 with family present, at home, in the house that her beloved Mike built for her.

Jean was born on July 23, 1932 to Robert and Mary Daley and grew up in Westville, NS.

Jean loved to dance and spent many evenings in her youth attending dances in Westville and the surrounding communities. It is at one of these dances that she met the love of her life, Mike Sarson. She moved to Mount William Road after their marriage in 1952.  Jean held various jobs throughout her life. She particularly enjoyed her 12 years of working at the Unemployment Office in New Glasgow. Jean’s spare time was spent crocheting, knitting, sewing, baking, reading and drinking Tetley Tea. Her favourite recreational pursuit was travel. The five Daley sisters and mother, Mary, spent time together travelling and shopping. The trips began modestly, mainly within Nova Scotia and then extended to the United States. A family trip to Florida in the 1980s first introduced Jean to travel by plane and the world opened up to her. She was able to travel, with various family members, to Cuba, Hawaii, Germany, Switzerland, Greece, Italy, England, Ireland, Wales and Scotland. Jean was particularly proud of driving in her 60s, across Canada to BC and back with her sister Kaye.

Jean loved children and spent as much time as possible with her nieces and nephews when they were young. She was a loving and supportive mother to daughter, Darcy. Jean was the type of mother who would volunteer to be a parent supervisor on the elementary school trips and host teenage slumber parties on a regular basis. Later, three grandsons blessed Jean’s life, providing more love and laughter. Jean was delighted and charmed by her great-grandson and she was thrilled to know twin great-granddaughters were on the way to join the family. Jean will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by friends and family for her kind and gentle soul.

Jean is survived by daughter, Darcy Sarson (Terry Chisholm); grandsons, Craig Chisholm (Tirza), Kyle Chisholm (Michelle), Adam Chisholm (Meg); great-grandson Koen Chisholm; sisters, Marguerite Myers, Terri MacDougall (Jim) ; sisters-in-law Jessie Sarson, Shirley Kavanaugh, and  many nieces and nephews; close friend Mary Chisholm.

Jean was predeceased by husband “Mike” Hebert L Sarson; sisters, Joyce MacNaughton, Kaye McCarron; brothers-in-law, Len Sarson, Reg Myers, Joe McCarron,  Lew MacNaughton, Don Lamey and Gerry MacNaughton and  sisters-in-law Helen Sarson and Freda Sarson.

The family wishes to thank the VON Home Care and Nursing caregivers for providing services over the last few years that allowed Jean to remain living independently in her home and thanks are offered to Pictou County Palliative Care as they provided the support needed for Jean to die comfortably at home.
