Obituary of Florence MacNeill-Knoll

Jessie “Florence” MacNeill-Knoll R.N., passed away on Sunday, July 2, 2023.  

Born January 13, 1926 in Westville , she was a daughter of the late Isaac and Julia (Frost) Snelgrove.

She was a Registered Nurse having trained at the Aberdeen Hospital School of Nursing, Class of 1947.  She worked at Annapolis Royal General Hospital and Three Hills, Alberta.  Upon returning to Nova Scotia she spent some time doing Private Duty Nursing.  Florence was a member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Westville, the Alumni of the Aberdeen School of Nursing and a retired member of the Westville Chapter 24 O.E.S.  She was an avid bridge player, having obtained the rank of Silver Life Master and was a member of the Duplicate Club in Truro and New Glasgow.  

She married James William “Bill” MacNeill and had two sons, Douglas and Donald.  Bill passed away in 1985 and she remarried William Frederick Knoll Sr. in 1990.  They enjoyed spending their winters in Florida.  
                                            
Florence is survived by two sons, Douglas and Donald (Maureen Lang); 2 step-daughters Margaret “Peggy” Houliston (Peter) and Carol Knoll-Riley; 4 step-sons, Bill Knoll (Cathy), Patrick Knoll, Robert Knoll (Mei), and Phillip Knoll (Kim); 5 grandchildren; 18 step-grandchildren; and several great grandchildren.  She is also survived by sister Muriel MacDonald (Herbie);   sisters-in-law Carol MacNeill, Julia Dorrington, and Margaret Henderson; brothers-in-law Jimmie Henderson (Bonnie) and Harry Muir. 

She was predeceased by her husbands; sisters Ida Hale (George), Anna MacGrath (George) and Jean Muir; brothers Clifford (Lorraine), Walter (Velma); brothers-in-law Dan Dorrington, Lawrence “Babs” MacNeill and Herbie Henderson.; step-son Will Riley and nephews Robbie Henderson and Harry Muir (Jr.) and sister-in-law Jean Snelgrove.
