Obituary of Greg Muirhead
Gregory Stewart Muirhead of Toney River formerly of Westville passed away on July 2, 2023 at his home.
Born in New Glasgow, he was the son of the late Burns Muirhead and Norma (Stewart) Muirhead, of Westville and brother of the late Harlin Muirhead.
Greg was a graduate of Westville High School and later attended the Nova Scotia Community College in Stellarton, where he received a certificate in heavy duty mechanics. After working for a time at Sobey’s warehouse in New Glasgow, Greg spent most of his career working in custodial services at the same community college he attended years earlier, taking pride in his work and showing genuine interest in both staff and students by engaging regularly in conversations.
A highlight for Greg was enjoying a trip to England with his good friend, Keith Sutherland and his family, when he was a young adult. Although he didn’t travel abroad in his later years, Greg was always keenly interested in hearing about the travel experiences of his family members and loved to sit and look at photos from their voyages, showing great curiosity about their adventures. Greg was also very interested in his great nephews and great niece, never missing an opportunity to ask about their interests, their studies, and their jobs.
Greg loved horses, Clydesdales in particular, and enjoyed spending time visiting various exhibitions around the province to support friends who entered their horses in competitions. He liked being in the barn, feeding and grooming horses as they prepared for their events. Greg also loved the ocean and spent much of his free time at the ferry terminal in Caribou, watching the ferries come and go, appreciating the hustle and bustle of the busy tourist season.
He is survived by his sister-in-law, Carol Muirhead, New Glasgow:, nieces, Janet (Chris) Piers, Fredericton and Sherri Muirhead, Stellarton; special grandnephews, James and Connor Piers, and special grandniece, Aliqa Piers; along with several cousins.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 13 from 1-2 pm at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville where his funeral will be held at 2 o’clock with Jacquie Ross officiating. Donations in Greg’s memory can be made to a charity of your personal choice.
