I'm sorry-- I didn't learn of Melvin's passing until today. I do wish to send my condolences to the MacKay and Boutilier families. I well remember his visits with my father on the family farm. If I understood correctly, he kept the cemetery in good shape. That was greatly appreciated since our family could not be there on a regular basis.

We send our deepest condolences to the Family on the passing of Melvin. I only heard when Cindy took me to the Antigonish Ex for the day. Melvin will be missed at our Exhibition.I have fond memories of helping Melvin haying for the summer when he got the old Jardine farm. I never saw anyone who could run so fast in the hayfield. Those were the days of loose hay. He was a faithful member of the community.

My condolences to Wayne Susan Carolyn Alexander and family I believe there is no doubt there was no harder working, God Loving Honest man in the Middle River district than Melvin a good friend. If my memory serves me correctly I believe the only thing that would stop him or slow him down was the weather or darkness 4 things that Melvin loved in life - The good Lord, Family, Farming and Friends I never heard Melvin say one curse word in all the years I have known him he come close a few times and believe me he had a good reason. If a good friend Tim Hayter was living today he would agree I am sure with my comments about our good friend . When Melvin would get mad at us and about ready to kill us his favorite words to use to exhaust his anger was Jumping , Jumping, Jumping you miserable ignorant Freakkers as you can see he come close to swearing I know the good Lord welcomed him home with open arms. Rest in peace my good friend . Stewart Smeltzer

Melvyn was a special person who was very kind to many. I remember him offering to drive people to or from the dances many years ago. Also, it was fun (for us) when his cattle or sheep arrived in our yard at the Balfour farm unannounced. His boots, cap and overalls were a unique style. Nothing matched, but everything blended with his big smile. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family at this difficult time. Sincerely, Nelda, Wally, David and Susan Humphreys

So very sorry to Melvyn's family for their loss!
Melvyn was a wonderful man, awesome 4-H leader and great friend to all who knew him.
I remember all the years he was my goats and sheep leader in 4-H, he always made our meetings fun while teaching us everything we needed too know, as well to get us ready for our achievement days, exhibition days and pro-show days
Also the times he came out to my place to shear my sheep for me. He always sheared them so well and so fast.
There has always been and always will be memories of our 4-H days and days I just stopped into his house to just say HI.
I will dearly miss you Melvyn
