Obituary of Shirley MacLeod

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and aunt, Shirley Marie MacLeod (Hardy) on Monday, September 11, 2023 at her home in Green Hill.

Born in Sydney on January 1, 1958, Shirley was the eldest daughter of Nellie (MacLeod) Hardy and the late Eddie Hardy of Gabarus, NS.

Shirley loved spending time with her family and was happiest when she was back home in Gabarus or watching a Jay’s game with Barry. She loved gardening and raising chickens and turkeys. Most of all she loved to cook for everyone, especially baking cookies with Noah. If you left her home hungry it was your own fault.

Shirley is survived by her loving husband of 46 years Barry; daughters Dawn Gillis (Colin) and Sharleen Kontuk (Jeff) and was a very proud grandmother of Austin (Dakota), Noah and Emma.  Shirley is also survived by her sister, Valerie MacLean (Beaker) and brothers Dale (Nancy), Eric (Shauna), Wilfred, Terry (Lori), Kenny, Charlie (Tracy) Hardy; brothers and sisters in law Heather Kugler (Roger), Steve MacLeod (Elaine), Sandra MacLeod (Stewart), and many nieces and nephews who she loved to spoil.  

Shirley was predeceased by her nephew Cyril Hardy; mother in law Marion MacLeod; and brother in law Donnie MacLeod.  

A private family gathering will be held in Gabarus at a later date.
