Obituary of Marie Cameron

With heavy hearts we announce that Heaven has received a Gem, Marie (Baillie) Cameron of Riverton passed peacefully at the young age of 92 on October 24th, 2023, in Palliative care after a short illness.

She spent her early years in West River Station until school age when she moved to Westville with her chosen mother Catherine (Baillie) O’Donnell. After high school she attended Normal College and became a teacher, a time in her life she spoke of fondly. Starting her career in Lovat and ending in Eureka with many schools in between. We always knew a former student as mom was greeted as Miss Baillie or Mrs. Cameron even 50 years later.

When she met the love of her life and the best dancer, Donald Cameron, they married in 1955. She eventually stayed home to be a Mom….an awesome one according to us! Kids were her passion and while bringing up her own she often took others in while their parents worked. They were all special to her heart and you know who you are.
Dad always having a business on the go kept Mom hopping.

Cameron’s Variety in Riverton was her favorite, being the social butterfly she was. She was also a staple at her kid’s business Ted’s Pizza helping wherever she could–and lucky enough pepperoni pizza was her weakness and gladly accepted that as payment. Mom and Dad also considered the Progressive Conservative Party to be part of their lives as many life long friends were met at local meetings and annual conventions.

Fondly known as “Nan’s Taxi” for all the late night pick ups with the agreement to sing along to Denis Ryan on the way home. In later years she could often be seen sitting in her window watching her son-in-law Wade filling the bird feeders that always gave her joy.

Although her early life was not the easiest, she always considered herself so fortunate to have the family and life she had. Having many friends and loving to laugh, always having fun in all she did…always with the teapot on and ready. Mom too many over the years and loved by all.

She was predeceased by her loving husband Donald and son Donnie, sister Betty Bourque and brothers  Reggie Breault, Johnny Corbett , Robert Breault and Matthew “Buddy” Corbett.

Marie leaves behind daughter Cathy (Wade) Salter and their daughter Spencer (mini nan); son Dale and his children Brent (Leann), great grandson Luke, Tiffanie (Ryan) great grand children Lan and Gavin; grandson Steven Cameron (Donnie’s son); chosen daughter Pam MacDonald and brother James Corbett (Elaine).

Interment will be at a later date.
