Obituary of Gerald Muir

It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of Gerald Muir, age 73 on Monday, November 27th, 2023.

Gerald was the son of the late Hugh Carmond Muir and Maisie Marguerite (Smith) Muir and the beloved sibling to Lloyd Muir, Vancouver, B.C. and Phyllis Meadows, Elmwood, P.E.I.  

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Dr. John Ronald Muir.

Gerald was born in New Glasgow and was raised in Westville, Nova Scotia. He attended Westville High School and went on to attend post-secondary training in data processing.  He had an aptitude for computer programming and valued his career working in the IT industry.  He also enjoyed music and travel.  He lived and worked in various parts of Canada throughout his career and in later years he was pleased to return to Nova Scotia and his childhood home on Cowan Street.

After returning to Westville, Gerald became involved in municipal affairs and worked briefly for the Town of Westville.  Gerald was an active member of St Paul United Church and served on various committees and positions of trust.  He volunteered with the Aberdeen Palliative Care Society for a number of years and truly valued this important work.

 We would like to thank the Oncology team at Aberdeen Hospital for the excellent care they extended to Gerald.

There will be a Celebration of Life on December 18th at 11a.m. at St Paul United Church, 1944 Church St, Westville, NS.   The interment will follow in the St. Phillips Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
