Obituary of Bobby Kyle

NEW GLASGOW – James Robert (Bobby) Kyle, 65, of New Glasgow, passed away with family by his side in the Palliative Care Unit at the Aberdeen Hospital on June 16, 2024.

Born October 3rd, 1958 in New Glasgow. Son of the late Jack and Anna Kyle.

In 1974 Bobby started his career at Sobeys working as produce clerk in New Glasgow. In 1986 moved to Antigonish where he completed his management training program and held various department manger positions. In 1995, he moved back to his home town and spent the majority of his career as Store Manager at various Sobeys stores throughout New Glasgow. After 40 hard working years, Bobby retired, but only for a short period of time as sitting back and relaxing wasn’t his strong suit. In 2014 he returned back to Sobeys for a couple years of contract projects. He had the upmost respect for the entire Sobeys family. Bobby didn’t stop there. In 2016 he took a Store Manager position at Scotian Gold Country Store. In 2021 he finally decided it was time for rest and retirement.

In his down time he enjoyed relaxing at home, golfing, having backyard bonfires with his family and friends and loved a good garage party listening to some Rod Stewart and Bruce Springsteen, sharing stories about his career and the good people he met along the way. Bobby was a diehard Bruins fan and one of his favourite memories was a trip to Boston with his father, sons and brother to see them play.

Those who knew Bobby knew he walked fast, talked fast, had a heart of gold and would give the shirt off his back to anyone.

Bobby was well known in his Community, sitting on a variety of committees and boards including Summer Street Industries. For many years, he proudly devoted his time to the Scott Weeks Celebrity Golf Tournament. His family often joked he was like “the mayor of New Glasgow” because anywhere he went in town or out of, he would run into someone he knew.

Bobby is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Kathy (Gurney) Kyle his sons, Jason (Shelley), Brandon (Lindsay) and daughter Kayla (Mark). Bobby was a proud grandfather of five grandchildren. Milly, Meggy, Maverick, Levi & Paisley and two step grandchildren Lily and Lucas. Bobby’s children and grandchildren were his pride and joy. His brothers, Greg and Dennis Kyle, sisters, Liz Macleod and Cheryl (Brian) Didsbury, brother & sister in-laws, Michael (Jean), Eddy (Jean), Ricky (Caroline) Jerry (Martha) Joey (Cindy) Freddy (Barb). Bobby also had many of loving nieces and nephews and cousins on each side of his family.

Bobby was preceded by his parents, Jack and Anna Kyle, parent in-laws Edward and Margaret Gurney and brother in-laws, Doug Macleod and Robert Gurney and sister in-law Cheryl Kyle.

A celebration of life will be held Thursday June 20th at the Bombers Club in New Glasgow from 4-8pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations can made to the Aberdeen Palliative Care society. https://www.pcpcares.org
