Obituary of Donald John Shymko

Donald John Shymko age 82, of Westville passed away on July 6, 2024 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Truro he was a son of the late Peter and Lettie Blanche (Smith) Shymko.

Don worked at Michelin for many years from where he retired at the age of 65. He loved old cars and his family meant everything to him. He was a diehard Montreal Canadiens fan.

Survived by his wife of 64 years the former Evelyn Stewart , daughters Dawn Fougere (Philip Kavanagh); and grandchildren Michael and Chelsea Fougere; Debby Linthorne and  grandchildren Donnie and Nathan Linthorne; Lesley Ann Shymko and grandchildren Matthew Koszkulics, Martin Hoffman, and Jenna Hoffman; 3 great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law Alan, Rick, Joe, Bob, Sandy, Gary Stewart and their families; sisters-in-law Zella Ferguson, Donna Gaudaur and their families.

He was predeceased by his parents; his beloved son-in-law Brian Fougere, his parents-in-law Don and Jean Stewart; brothers-in-law Bill Stewart, Joseph Stewart,Terry Stewart, James Ferguson; sisters -in-law Katherine Stewart, Irene Stewart, Helen Langille; his faithful companion of 18 years Buddy.

 A graveside service will be held at 2 pm on Thursday, July11, 2024 in the Birch Hill Cemetery, Rocklin with Pastor Bruce Morrison officiating.

A reception will follow the service at Branch # 28 Royal Canadian Legion Stellarton.

No flowers by the request of the family. Donations in memory of Donald may be made to the SPCA.
