Obituary of Isabelle "Belle" Sangster

The peaceful passing of Isabelle "Belle" Sangster occurred on Friday, August 30, 2024.

Born July 2, 1927, Mom was the youngest child of William and Emma (Hill) Hale. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

An active, fun-loving supportive friend, aunt, and mother Belle always met life with a smile, a positive attitude, and a reserve of strength, resilience, and deep faith. Mom loved to meet people and made friends easily and nothing gave her greater joy than meeting acquaintances while she was out and about.

For over 40 years, Mom was an equal partner with Dad making Boyd’s Bakery a successful local business. Family, church, and community were of utmost importance to her. She took great pride in the accomplishments, activities, and travels of her children and grands. She prided herself on having been able to attend almost every grandchild’s high school and university graduation.

She never missed an opportunity to participate in a wedding, birthday, or baptism anywhere and even cruised  to Alaska and the Caribbean. For over 70 years the Black Point cottage was and continues to be a special place and has welcomed many to gather and celebrate.

A Christian woman of faith, she was a lifelong member of “St. Bees” Anglican Church; served on Parish Council, Altar Guild, and was instrumental in The Helping Hands group.She was an active member of Westville Curling Club for 50 years and was awarded a life membership. Because of her years of dedication to the Canadian Cancer Society, she was awarded Volunteer of the Year in 1982. She also was involved with the Terry Fox Run; delivered Meals on Wheels until she was 88 years old and enjoyed her duties with the Aberdeen Hospital Auxillary Gift Shop.

Belle is survived by children Linda (Brian) Bezanson, Susan Sangster, Grace (Ron) Paris, David, Kevin (Kelly),Ruth (Sandy) Rundle, and Phillip (Angie). She was affectionally known as Gramma to Jennifer (Bill) Byer, John (Amy) and Michael Cedric (Cris) Bezanson; Ian (Melissa) Nordin; Emily (Brad) MacDougall, Beth (Mitch) MacKenzie; Morgan (Shaun) Lundy; Kate Rundle (Chris Cairns), Amanda (Mike) Bettle and David Rundle (Emma Barlow); Claire and Dean Sangster; Great Gramma “GG” to twelve - Nick, Nathan, Luc, Isabelle, Lily, Stella, Giselle, Tucker, Sophie, Brock, Ava and Emma and Great Great Gramma to  Nova-Lynn. Belle is also survived by many dear nieces and nephews locally and across Canada.

Belle was predeceased by her beloved husband, Lloyd Sangster in 2001, granddaughter Amy in infancy; sisters Edith Allgood, Ellen Rulolph, Alpha Wilson, Edna Fisher, Lillian Ross, Emma Fraser; brothers Seaton, Roy and George Hale and many dear friends.

Visitations will be at Eagles Funeral Home from 6-8 pm on Sunday, September 1, 2024 and 2-4 and 6-8 pm on Monday, September 2, 2024. Her funeral service will be at St. Bees Anglican Church on Tuesday, September 3 at 2 pm with Rev. Joanne Neal presiding. No flowers by request. Donations in Belle’s memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, St. Bees Anglican Church  or a charity of you choice.
