Obituary of Marion Loretta Cyr

Marion Loretta Cyr, age 88, of Westville passed away on August 31, 2024 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in Westville she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Elsie (Cottie) McLaughlin.

Marion has been a resident of Westville most of her life. She loved time spent with family, loved to go on road trips with anyone that was travelling for a family gathering or just a drive. Mom's quick wit, sense of humor and easy going manner were enjoyed by all she came in contact with.

She loved her children with all her heart and thought she had the best kids. She was affectionately called Gramma Cyr or Momma by not only her children and grandkids, but by neighborhood kids or her children's friends. Over the years she enjoyed weekly card games with her sister-in-law Margie, fishing adventures with her brother Bobby, and was competitive at a game of washers even in her eighties. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

She is survived by her children Brian (Kathy), West River; Heather Halliday (Kevin), Foxbrook Rd.; Kenneth (Shelley), Plymouth; Allan (Sharon), Hopewell; Murdock (Lori), Westville; Steve (Mariann), Churchville; Debbie (Brian) Barnes, Saltsprings; Marion "Mimi" Cyr (Darren), East Stewiake; Pam Cyr, Foxbrook Rd.; 19 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren ; 3 great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Jenny McLaughlin, Pictou; many nieces and nephews; special friends Evelyn and Kenny Fraser; chosen daughter Donna MacDermid.

She was predeceased by a daughter Catherine in infancy; grandson Jeffrey Cyr; sisters Dorothy and Emily; brothers Bobby, Bernie, Joseph and her former husband Sonny Cyr.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 3 from 6-9 pm in Eagles Funeral Home, Westville. Funeral service will be held at 11 am on Wednesday Sept., 4 in Eagles Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson officiating. Cremation will follow the service. Burial will take place in the MacLeod Cemetery Foxbrook Rd. at a later date.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Palliative Care Unit at the Aberdeen Hospital for the excellent care and compassion for Mom and her family. A special thank-you to Mom's personal caregivers Karen, Rebe and Jackie.
