Obituary of Lorraine Cyr

It is with heavy hearts that we, her family, announce the passing of Lorraine Treasa (Doucette) Cyr, age 92, of Westville. On November 11, 2024, Lorraine crossed over peacefully, in unity with the Holy Spirit, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on May 08, 1932, she was a daughter of the late Edmund and Catherine Doucette. She was blessed to be raised in a large, caring family that instilled within her an appreciation for, and love of God, family, community, and kindness.

Lorraine married the love of her life and best friend, Raymond, on March 30th, 1964. They settled in Westville to raise their two children, Janice and Ray Paul.

A resident of Westville for most of her life, Lorraine’s first job was at Eaton’s on Main Street. After that, she was employed by Sears, worked part-time while being a full-time mom, and stayed with Sears until she retired. She made deep connections with her co-workers and held those friendships dear even after retirement. Lorraine and her “Sears Girls” gathered regularly for lunch and continued to do so until Covid hit in 2020.

Lorraine was a devoutly spiritual woman and a lifelong parishioner of the Holy Name Catholic Church. She sang in the choir as a young girl and attended mass with her family every week. She was a lifetime member of the CWL with 40 years of service, a member of Cursillo since 2003, and attended a weekly prayer group with her fellow Cursillistas (Belle Bourque, Margie DeCoff, Verna Hill, the late Gloria Morse, and her sister Carolyn), faithfully since 2004.

Lorraine had an enthusiastic love of sports that originated from her Daddy when, together, they would watch baseball games and Hockey Night in Canada, without fail. She was an avid Montreal Canadiens fan, the loyalty of her team and the love of the game shared with her son, Ray. She celebrated the victories of the Habs loudly, but not nearly as enthusiastically as cheering on her son during his own years of playing hockey. She carried on this tradition with her grandchildren attending numerous basketball and soccer games. She could shop until she dropped with her beautiful daughter and loving sisters. They all shared a love of retail shopping and the weekly tradition of Saturday Macaroni.

Lorraine was an artisan, talented at ceramics, toll painting, knitting, and crocheting. Her nieces and nephews all proudly wore knitted sweaters, hats and mittens, crafted with love and there was no shortage of hand made Christmas ceramics for all.

A loving wife, mother, and grandmother; Lorraine’s greatest pride and joy were her children and grandchildren. She loved watching them grow up and celebrating their accomplishments. She believed that one of her greatest blessings was to be able to actively participate in the lives of all four of her grandchildren. She would spend part of the year in Westville with Lucas and Jessica, and then she and Raymond would travel to Florida in the winter to be with Renée and Marc.

She was well travelled, and while in Florida, Lorraine and Raymond enjoyed the Canadian Club Social Club, lawn bowling, dancing, fine dining, and golf.

She was proud of her longevity. Lorraine was astonished that she made it to 92 in both good health and soundness of mind. A privilege denied to many, she would say.

She was a woman who lived a blessed life, woven with dignity, compassion, and love. Lorraine had a sparkle in her eye when she laughed, had a great sense of humor, a healthy competitive nature, and like her mother before her, she truly was a lady; and she gave the best hugs.

She will be forever missed by those of us who know and love her; until we meet again.

Lorraine is survived by her son: Raymond Paul (Marla), Fort Myers, FL; her son-in-law: Donnie Dooley; her grandchildren: Lucas Dooley (Katie), Grand Prairie, AB; Jessica Dooley, Trenton; Renée Cyr, Sarasota, FL; and Marc Cyr, Port Orange, FL; her brothers: Robert Doucette (Sharon), Fredericton, NB; and Michael Doucette (Carol), Truro; her sister: Carolyn Cameron (Dana), Westville; her sisters-in-law: Doreen Slaunewhite (Jim), and Irene MacDonald, both of Halifax; and Janet Doucette, Westville; her brother-in-law: David Eagles, Westville; her special nephew: Kevin Doucette (Anita), Halifax; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Besides her parents, Lorraine was predeceased by her husband: Raymond; her daughter: Janice Dooley; her sisters: Helen Doucette, Dorothy Doucette, and Sylvia Eagles; her brothers: Fred Doucette and Ed Doucette; and her sister-in-law: Ann Doucette.

Visitation will be held from 3-5pm on Friday November 15th in the Eagles Funeral Home, Westville. Funeral Service will take place on Saturday November 16th at 11am in The Holy Name Roman Catholic Church, Westville, with Fr. Peter MacDonald Presiding.

Special thanks to her local family and neighbors as well as to the VON, the staff of 4 North, and the Palliative Care Unit at the Aberdeen Hospital for your exceptionally kind and compassionate care.
