Obituary of Michael MacDonald

On Christmas Eve, Michael left this world to rejoin his mom,Lorna (nee Murrell) and his Dad, Carthew MacDonald.

Left behind to honour his life and love is his son Carthew (British Columbia); Carthew’s mom, Becky; sisters Kim (Anthony Chisholm) and Kelly (Greg Lackie); and best friend, chosen brother, and cousin Sandy MacNeil. He also leaves behind a clan of cousins, whom he loved dearly and who loved him back just as dearly. He is predeceased by our loving aunts, uncles, and three cousins, who we know are welcoming him with open arms. 

Mike was such a great guy, making friends easily; they too will feel a great loss and be comforted by wonderful memories. Michael was born on November 5, 1954, at the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.  

As a child he travelled extensively with his family, settling in Westville for his teen years where he made lifelong friends, in particular, John Muirhead and Joe Beaton. They made beautiful music together!

After high school he moved many times; to Newfoundland, Alberta, and British Columbia, finally moving back to Abercrombie, New Glasgow where he spent his final years. According to Mike, this is where he found peace and happiness.

Michael was a quiet guy, never wanting to be the centre of attention…except when he was singing on stage, and could he sing! There was nothing that Mike couldn’t harmonize to; he was such a talent. Michael was also a voracious reader, passing the hours devouring book after book. Because of this, he had a brilliant mind and could chat comfortably with anyone.

Michael was the best big brother ever, never judging and always supporting our dreams. We knew how much he loved us, and he knew how much we loved him. That will never end.

Michael will rest at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville on January 4, 2024, from 3-6 pm followed by a short service. Internment and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
