Obituary of Ross Chambers

Ernest Ross Chambers, age 87 of Sylvester, passed away Thursday January 20, 2011 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in New Glasgow, October 15, 1923, he was the son of the late James and Ola (Kennedy) Chambers. Ross grew up in Trenton, lived a few years in Tatamagouche, then settled in Sylvester in 1937 and lived there until his passing. He delivered mail by horse and wagon in the late 30’s, worked a bit on the highway and spend most of his life farming. He was an avid card player and enjoyed sports, especially watching his favourite hockey team – Toronto Maple Leafs. He will be sadly missed by his family: Gary (Marg), Braeshore; Lola (Jim) Tree, Pine Tree; John (Ann), Merigomish; Laurie (Debbie), Stellarton; Nedra (Carl) Wilson, Greenhill; and his former wife Joyce (Owen) Chambers, Greenhill. He had 12 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Ross was the last surviving member of his family. He was predeceased by two half brothers, John and Mon, and two half sisters Rose and Mary. His family will receive visitors on Friday 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 at the Eagles Funeral Home, Westville. Funeral will be held at 1pm Saturday with Pastor Gordon Wheeler officiating. Burial will be at Heatherdale Memorial Gardens, Sylvester; reception to follow at the Alma Fire Hall. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to the Palliative Care Society at the Aberdeen Hospital, or a charity of your choice.
