Obituary of Lloyd Millen

Lloyd Alexander Millen, age 91, Willow Avenue, New Glasgow, passed away on Tuesday, February 8, 2011 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in Westville on October 29, 1919, he was a son of the late Thompson and Annie Bell ( Fraser ) Millen. He moved to a farm in White Hill at an early age and attended school in Hopewell. Moving back to Westville in 1939. In the forties he joined the R.C.N.V.R. as a Shipwright and served in that capacity until the end of WWII. He was employed by Eastern Woodworkers as a cabinetmaker and general carpentry, later co-founding Lenargo Industries Ltd. and Parkway Industries, manufacturers of modular homes . He was highly regarded for his work ethic and integrity. He was married in 1948 and moved to New Glasgow where he lived on an 18 acre in town farm for the past 48 years where he was able to indulge in his great love for horses. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Naval Association, Admiral Murray Branch and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #34, New Glasgow. He was a former member of the New Glasgow Fire Department. Lloyd was inducted with his family into the Pictou County Sports Heritage Hall of Fame as a Horse Breeder and Trainer. Lloyd will be sadly missed by his wife of 62 years, Freda (Saunders); daughter Valerie Millen (Lyle Kerr), Toronto; sister- in-law, Agnes Sample, Westville; brother -in -law, Donald Saunders, Union Centre; nieces, Dr. Karen Sample, Halifax, and Patricia Crumback, Ont., and Julia Millen, NWT; and nephews Donald Saunders Jr., Union Centre, Johnny Millen, Winnipeg and John Frederick Clarke, Miss. He was predeceased by his sister, Elda Perrin and brothers, Raymond, Earl and Kelvin. Visitations will be held 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville. The Royal Canadian Naval Association and the Royal Canadian Legion will conduct a service 6:30p.m. Thursday at the funeral Home. His funeral service will be held 2 o'clock Friday from Eagles Funeral Chapel, Westville with Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson officiating. Spring burial will be in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens
