Richard Fraser "Rick" Cassidy, of New Glasgow, passed away peacefully in Calgary on Friday, February 18, 2011 after a brief illness. Rick was born in Halifax on May 3, 1954 and grew up in New Glasgow, NS, the second eldest son of Raymond and Jean (Fraser) Cassidy. Rick was a loving and devoted father to his daughter Ashley, Calgary; a caring brother to David (Paula), Is. East River; Karen, AB; Cheryl (Huck MacInnis), Millstream. He was a supportive uncle to his nieces, Pam Cassidy (Tim Cochrane), Tanya Cassidy, grand niece, Veronica Cassidy; nephews, Graham Cassidy (Kara Wood) and Steven Cassidy (Sueann Syms); and grand nephews, Brett Hayman and Zachary Cassidy. Rick was predeceased by his younger brother Bruce. Rick moved to the west as a young man and enjoyed working and living in Alberta and Yellowknife where he made many good friends and lots of fond memories. He will be especially missed by his Calgary families, Byron, Donna and Brennan Pike, George, Claire, Megan and Carolyn Tulle, and by his family of co-workers at MRL Integrated Solutions. Rick was faithful to visit his family and friends in the east and made many memorable trips home to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries and holidays. He loved spending time with those he cared about and enjoyed planning and celebrating life. His memory will live on in the hearts of many. Next to family and friends Rick’s greatest passions were the Detroit Red Wings and his hero, John Wayne. Cremation has taken place. The family will be honoured to receive visitors on Thursday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville. A service of remembrance will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. with Father Donald Boudreau officiating. Family flowers only. Donations in his memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice. "Courage is being scared to death, but saddling up anyway." John Wayne.
