Mrs. Khanom Harris, Main Street, Westville passed away peacefully on Monday, February 28, 2011, in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, at the age of 101 years. It is with heartfelt sadness that we say goodbye to Westville Centenarian. Born Khanom Zrein in 1910 in Zahle, Lebanon, she immigrated to Canada in 1936 and together with her late husband opened one of the first Dry Goods Stores on Main Street, Westville. After her husband’s death in 1954, she continued to operate her store until 1990. A resident of Main Street, Westville, until her passing, she had nothing but warm feelings for the Town and its people. She lived an amazing life full of love, charity, and good health. Mrs. Harris, as she was known to all, a matriarch, was also very active and engaged member of the Muslim Community and supportive of all Islamic Mosques. She had a strong faith and believed it was God’s will that her time had come. "To Allah do we belong and to him we return" She leaves surviving her daughters, Lily Hemeon (Ron), Saskatoon; Naifie Hindi, London, Ont.; her sons, Naiff (Hiam), London, Ont.; Wayne, New Glasgow; 14 grandchildren, 23 great-great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband George; eldest son Murray; daughter-in-law Fran Harris; two grand-daughters; and three brothers, and two sisters in Lebanon. Following her Islamic faith, her funeral took place Tuesday, March 1, at the Islamic Mosque, Bible Hill, followed by her burial in the Muslim Cemetery. She will be profoundly missed and always remembered.
