Obituary of John Sutherland

John Hugh Sutherland, 75, Munroe Avenue Ext., New Glasgow passed away on Thursday, March 10, 2011 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow with his sisters and close friend, Bruce Rogers at his side. Born in Watervale, he was a son of the late Samuel and Margaret (Blair) Sutherland. John worked at Scotia Chev/Olds, Halifax for several years and later with the Department of Mines, Stellarton until his retirement. He enjoyed his animals, especially his pet "Super Cat". John had a great interest in older vehicles and took great pride in his antique cars and trucks which he often entered in local parades. He will be missed by his sisters, Frances MacDonald, New Glasgow; Mary Parker, Durham; several nieces and nephews and close friends Judy and Leonard Smith, Linacy. John was predeceased by his wife Ida (Gillis); a brother Fred and brothers-in-law, Kenneth "K.Y." Parker and Reid L. MacDonald. Visitations will be held on Saturday from 7-9 pm and Sunday from 3:30 - 5:00 and 7-9 pm at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville. His Funeral service will be held 2 o’clock Monday from Eagles Funeral Chapel, Westville with the Rev. John Roy officiating. Spring burial will be in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens. Family flowers only, donations in John’s memory may be made to the S.P.C.A. or the Palliative Care Society.
