Obituary of Isabel Matheson

It is with great sadness we announce the death of Isabel Catherine Matheson of Hopewell which occurred on Saturday, June 19, 2010 in Valley View Villa at the age of 104 years. Born in Hopewell, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Annie (Sutherland) Matheson. She is survived by her brother, Fr. Daniel Matheson (Vera), Ottawa; nieces and nephews, Anna Grant and family, Hopewell; Mary Sharp and family, Ottawa; Neil Matheson and family, Brockville, Ont; Peter Matheson, Ottawa and special great niece, Patricia MacNeil Baker (and her husband Gary Baker who was very close with Isabel), New Glasgow. Isabel was predeceased by brothers William (Margaret) and Robert "Bob" (Sadie). Thanks to the 1st floor staff of Valley View Villa whom Isabel thought of as "her angels" and to Dr. S. Barclay and Dr. J. Hamm. Visitations will be held on Wednesday from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville. Her funeral service will be held 2o’clock Thursday at St. Columba United Church, Hopewell with Rev. Heather Landry officiating. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery. Family flowers only, donations may be made to World Vision or the Save the Children Foundation. Isabel was baptized in St. Columba Church in Hopewell in 1905. She was an active member of that church for as long as her years allowed. This was not a casual thing for her: she was a devout and committed Christian. She believed the gospel and lived a life of obedience and prayer. She was deeply committed to more works of charity and faith than even her friends knew. She believed the promises of God and anticipated and awaited her entrance into eternal life with complete joy.
