Obituary of James MacKay

James Boyd “Jim” MacKay, age 99, of Riverton, formerly of Fox Brook, passed away Monday, March 21, 2011, surrounded by family, friends and the caring staff of Valley View Villa. Born in Fox Brook, September 4, 1911, he was the son of David Hugh and Jemima (Chisholm) MacKay. Jim was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Jim was a farmer all his life. He also worked a number of years at the Car Works. In younger years, during the winter months, having his own team of horses, worked hauling logs for the lumber camps. Then in finer weather would haul gravel etc. for the Highways. Jim loved horses. Jim also was employed for a few years as dog control officer for the county area. Jim was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Hopewell and served as an elder for over 60 years. He was a member of the Caledonia IOOF Lodge #28 Hopewell from the age of 19 (80yrs). In 1980 he joined the Wawbeek Encampment #12, Hopewell where he held all elective offices and served as secretary-treasurer for the Egerton Agricultural Society for 30+ years. Jim will be best remembered for his stories of “I remember when” which he loved to tell and would share with anyone who cared to listen. Jim is survived by his son Preston, Fox Brook; grandsons, David MacKay (Leanne), New Glasgow, Jamie MacKay, Abercrombie; great-grandsons, Connor and Graeme MacKay, New Glasgow; daughters-in-law, Norma Morse, New Glasgow and Marion MacKay, Riverton; also by nieces, nephews, step-grandchildren; and sister and brother-in-law. Jim was predeceased by his devoted wife Olive; son Chalmers; and by his sisters, Anna Ross, Sarah Fraser, and Jean Levy. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation. A memorial service to celebrate Jim’s life will be held and announced at a later date. Donations in memory of Jim may be made to a charity of one’s choice. On line condolences may be made at
