Obituary of Lena Dickinson

It is with great sadness, that we, the family, announce the passing of Lena Dickinson, age 83, on May 12, 2011 in Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow. Born on August 13, 1927, she was a daughter of the late Peter and Helen (Mannette) DeYoung of New Glasgow. She was a well known seamstress and took pride in the many wedding gowns and bridesmaids dresses that she made over the years. She loved her garden, loved to bake, and she travelled to many places in Canada and the United States with her late husband, Ron, as they attended many functions for the Knights of Pythias Lodge. She was happy being a wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a former member of the Mothers Club of the Balmoral Girls Pipe Band; the Westville Curling Club; and Nomads of Avrudaka. Left to mourn her passing is her daughter and son in law, Diane and Morris Campbell of Westville, two special grandchildren, granddaughter Gina and husband, Rob Snell of Westville, and grandson Derek and his wife Patrice of New Minas. Her pride and her joy were her great-grandchildren; Nathan and Jared Snell; and Kyra and Jackson Campbell who are going to miss their Nanny Lena. She is also survived by a sister Joyce and husband Don McKay of Big Island Rd., brother Charles and Lorraine DeYoung of Scotsburn, brother in law Robert Dickinson of Westville, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 58 yrs, Ron Dickinson, sister and brother in law Stella and Robert Wilson, sister Hilda (DeYoung) Richards, brothers Kenneth, Clarence, and Daniel; brother in law Stewart Dickinson. Also by nieces Pat (McKay) Glennie, and Joyce Elizabeth McKay ; nephews Raylo Dickinson, Peter Wilson, and infant DeYoung (son of Charles and Lorraine) Visitations will be held on Saturday from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville.. Her funeral service will be held 3:30 pm Sunday from Eagles Funeral Chapel, Westville with Rev. Jim Webber-Cook officiating. Burial will be in the Auburn Cemetery, Westville.
