Obituary of Albert Field

Albert Ernest Field, 90, Watervale, Pictou County passed away on Saturday, May 21, 2011 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in Stellarton, he was a son of the late Ernest and Jane (Manion) Field. Albert was an overseas veteran of W.W.II and was a devoted member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 35, Westville and a member of the Overseas War Veteran’s Association. He joined the Pictou Highlanders and served first in Bermuda and then as dispatch rider in Italy. He transferred to the Essex Scottish Regiment as a machine gunner in Belgium After the war he joined the Merchant Navy for 9 years and later worked as a truck driver until his retirement. Albert was a very caring person who had a great love for animals and literally "would not hurt a fly". He will be missed by his partner, Audrey Avery; sons, Howard "Bud" and Patrick both in Ontario; 4 grandchildren; sister, Jessie Wood, Alberta, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Joyce (Webb); sisters, Joan MacPherson, Nora Field, June Mason, Clarice Stewart and brothers Ronald , George and Ernest "Skippy" and Tommy Filed. Visitations will be held Tuesday from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm at Eagles Funeral Home Westville. The Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 35, Westville will conduct at 6:30 Tuesday at The Funeral Home. His funeral service will be held at 11 am Wednesday at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville with Father Gerald Campbell officiating. Cremation will follow the funeral. Interment will take place in Oak Grove Cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to the S.P.C.A.
