Obituary of Allan Campbell
James Donald, “Allan” Campbell, 76, Waverley, passed away peacefully on Sept 5., 2011 at the Halifax Infirmary.
Allan was born July 4, 1935, the son of Allan and Lena (Lent) Campbell. He grew up in New Glasgow and moved to Toronto as a young man.
In 1964 he married Agnes Carrigan and they began their life together in Sydney. Al was well known in the building supply industry, starting at the CO-OP in Sydney and later Moncton NB. In 1975 he moved his family to St. Stephen NB to work for Haley Building Supplies, eventually returning to Nova Scotia, and ended his career with Central Supplies in Antigonish after 25 years. After retirement Al and Aggie moved to Waverly to be closer to their grandchildren.
Al was a dedicated husband and father and was known for his gentleness, his kind words and his friendly smile. He had a great passion for sports and participated in hockey, baseball and car racing in his youth. Al and Aggie raised their family and made many special friends in all the places they lived.
Allan is survived by his daughters Paula Clark (Scott) and Catherine Campbell (Chris Wilson) and his grandchildren William and Sophie Clark, sister Jane Campbell (Calgary). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his wife Agnes and his brothers Billy and Sandy and George in infancy.
Visitations will be held Friday, September 9, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville. His funeral will be held 11 am Saturday from The Church of The Holy Name, Westville. Interment will be in the Holy Name Cemetery.
