Obituary of Mike Sarson

Herbert L. "Mike" Sarson, 76, Mount William, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 12, 2009 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow surrounded by family. Mike was the son of the late Herbert and Carrie "Jenny" (MacPherson) Sarson of Mount William. Mike began his working life early, becoming a coal miner in the Stellarton mines. When the mines closed, he worked as an Iron Worker in construction, then went to Trenton Works where he retired. He then formed "Mike’s Mobile Welding Co." He was an avid hunter and fisherman who enjoyed his time with "the boys" at the camp. He often entertained family and friends by retelling the tall tales of woodland adventures, most featuring his "good buddy" Lloyd Decoste. Mike enjoyed a good game of cards, especially crib, and classic western movies and country music. He was a 50 year member of Scotia Lodge #11 , I.O.O.F. Westville. Mike is survived by his loving wife of 57 years Jean (Daley); his daughter Darcy Sarson (Terry Chisholm), Antigonish; three grandsons, Craig, Kyle, and Adam Chisholm; Antigonish; sisters, Helen, New Glasgow, Shirley and Jessie, Hamilton, Ont.; sisters in law Marguerite Myers, Halifax, Terry MacDougall (Jim ), New Glasgow, and brother in law Lou MacNaughton, Westville; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers Leonard Sarson and infant brother Lloyd. Visitations will be held from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville. The Scotia Lodge #11 I.O.O.F. will conduct a service at 6:30 at the funeral home. His funeral will be held 11 a.m. Friday from Eagles Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Doug Pilsworth officiating. Interment will be in Mount William Cemetery. Family flowers only.
