Obituary of Beatrice Savage
A gentle woman, Evelyn Beatrice “Bea” Savage is finally free from suffering the effects of Lewy-Body disease. She left this world on November 18th, 2011. Recently residing in Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow, but formerly of Westville Road, Bea was born in Cape Breton in August of 1932, the daughter of George Andrew and Margaret Jane (MacEachern) Hopkins. She spent her early days in Cape Breton, moving to Pictou County to marry Joe Savage 59 years ago.
Bea is survived by her husband, Joseph “Joe” and their daughters: Trudy Johnson (Doug Masters), Bridgewater, Joanne (Ron) MacIvor, Merigomish, Cindy (Gerry) Pettipas, Dartmouth, grandchildren: Murray (Kelli), Caleb (Yea-Ji ) and Taylor MacIvor; Drew (Keisha) and Annie Johnson and Jillian and Brittany Pettipas; great-grandchildren: Hayden and Ethan MacIvor, Owen, Malik and Ashayo Johnson. Bea is also survived by her brothers John and Jackie, both of Louisdale and her sister, Ida Hutt of New Glasgow. In addition to her parents, Bea was predeceased by her siblings: Mary (Mae) Keefe, Caroline (Kay) Gillan, Sadie, Ella and Walter Hopkins.
A homemaker most of her life, she took pride in her home, keeping it spotless. Family members and friends were treated to Bea’s wonderful baking and preserves. Joe and Bea kept a beautiful property with large gardens, always sharing the bounty with friends and family. There was always a friendly competition between Bea’s son-in-laws to be her #1. The competition and the attention always brought a smile to her face.
