Obituary of Austin Munro

Austin Fraser Munro, age 92 years, of North Main Street, Westville, passed away on Saturday, April 28, 2012 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in Millbrook, Pictou Co., the son of Angus and Isabella (Fraser) Munro, Austin was a descendant of the Fraser settlers from the Ship Hector. Growing up in Millbrook, his love of music earned him the degree A.M.C.M. from McGill University. He taught piano in New Glasgow for ten years and was a past treasurer of the Music Teachers Assoc. of N.S. Living in Toronto over 50 years, he worked mainly for Scotia MacLeod, as well as other stock brokers such as T.A. Richardson and Company. Austin continued with his interest in music and was also an active member of the Pictou County Club in Toronto. In 2002, he moved back home to Westville where he enjoyed daily walks in the mall and Walmart with the Polleys and friends. The Westville and Area Gardening Club was also an interest for Austin. Austin is survived by close friend Basil McCann; sister-in-law Marguerite Munro; nieces, Marlene Gillis, Sarnia, Ont; Hannah Dunn (Don) Hopewell; Nancy Munro-Thieu (Giau), Elmsdale; Helen MacIntosh (Sandy), Westville; nephews, Charles Van Louvender, Pennsylvania; Leonard Thompson Jr., Dartmouth; Donald Thompson (Carol), Westville; Kenneth Munro, Halifax. He was predeceased by brothers Cameron and Grant; sisters, Anna Van Louvender and Alma Thompson; nephew Richard Munro and grand nephew Shayne Munroe. Auistin's funeral service was held 2 o’clock Tuesday from Middle River Church, Rocklin with the Rev. Gary Tonks officiating. Burial was in the Millbrook Cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to Middle River Church or the Canadian Cancer Society.
