Obituary of Ellie Brannon

Elvina "Ellie" Lucy Brannon(née Schnare), Munroe Avenue Ext., New Glasgow, passed away peacefully on May 30, 2009 at the Valley View Villa in Riverton, NS. Born in Black Point, NS, she was the daughter of the late Maxwell and Winnifred Schnare and the wife of Earle F. Brannon, her loving husband of 56 years. Ellie served in the Royal Canadian Air Force at the Radar Installation Base in Barrie, Ontario, for the two years prior to her marriage to Earle. She also gave 15 years of dedicated employment service at Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow, caring for the infirm and the elderly. Ellie was a member of St. George’s Anglican Church, New Glasgow; of the St. George’s Anglican Church Women; and of the Westville Heritage Group. As well, she was an active member of her community, serving the St. John’s Ambulance for 25 years. She participated in Big Sisters, was a volunteer at the 1987 Canada Games in Cape Breton, and she delivered Meals on Wheels for 15 years. Ellie had also received awards from the Canadian Red Cross for her many blood donations. Ellie enjoyed a busy social life. She and Earle made many friends during the years they square danced with Square Eights, the Trenton Twirlers and round danced with the Min-u-Ettes. Ellie liked ice skating, cross-country skiing, swimming, canoeing, walking and she was an avid bowler. Ellie is survived by her husband Earle; her four children – Janet Lee Brannon (Joel Fichaud), Halifax, NS; Kelvin (Peggy) Brannon, Churchville, NS; Karen (Allen) King, Kamloops, BC; and Philip (Cathy) Brannon, Lower Sackville, NS; her eight grandchildren – Hannah Lawrie; Melanie, Scott and Evan Brannon; Shannon and Sean King; Kellsie and Jenna Brannon; and her two great-grandchildren - Ava Grace and Rylin Faith Brannon; by her sisters June Schnare and Heather Garbett, both of Seaforth, NS, and by her brothers, Lloyd Schnare of Sarnia, Ont. and Arthur Schnare of Porter’s Lake, NS. She was preceded in death by her sister Shirley Giddens of Jackson, Mississippi and her brother Lorne Schnare of Seaforth, NS. Ellie’s family extends a very special thank you to the staff at Valley View Villa, who took such good care of her during the last few years of her life. Cremation has taken place. At the request of the deceased, there will be no visitation or memorial service.
