Obituary of Gerald MacKenzie

Gerald Osborne MacKenzie, age 89, of Church Street, Westville, passed away on Sunday, July 29, 2012 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in Westville, he was a son of the late John James and Edith (Cameron) MacKenzie. In his younger years, he had worked at the coal mines and the pottery factory. He was a stationary engineer at the Nova Scotia Hospital, Mount St. Vincent, and the Chronicle Herald, before moving back to Pictou Co. to work at Claritone and retiring from Hawker Siddeley Ltd. Gerald was a member of the Scotia Lodge #11 I.O.O.F. and the Rebekah Lodge and served on the Board of Directors of the Oddfellows Home for several years. He was a member and an elder of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church. Gerald was an intelligent man who could put his hand to anything. He will be sadly missed by his wife Doreen (Robson Marshall); daughters Geraldine Cameron (Cecil) and Marion Hale (Frank), both of Westville; sons, Gordon (Nancy), Keith (Connie), and Bill, all of Westville; step-children, Ann Holmes (David), MacLellan’s Brook; Gerald Marshall (Linda), Durham; Byron and Norman Marshall, both of Ontario; 26 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild. He is also survived by sisters-in-law, Frances MacKenzie, Edna Bunckle, and Dena MacIntosh. He was predeceased by his first wife Lorraine (Chambers); son John, and daughter-in-law Mary (Chaulker); brothers, Malcolm, Charles, Robert, Gordon, and Clarrie MacKenzie; and sisters Mary Wright, Mabel MacDonald, and Jean Stewart. His funeral service was held 10 a.m. Wednesday August 1 from St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Westville with the Rev. Jeff Lackie officiating. Interment was inHeatherdale Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, the Aberdeen Palliative Care Society, or the N.S. Heart and Stoke Foundation.
