Obituary of Esther Baker
Esther Baker – of Stellarton, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family, on Sunday, September 2, 2012.
Born in Westville, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Catherine (MacLean) Graham. Esther was predeceased by her husband Jack, sisters Thurza (Don) Williams, Isabel and infant Olive, and infant brother Allister.
Esther grew up in Westville. Upon graduation from Pictou Academy, she worked at the Royal Bank of Canada in Westville. After WW II, she married Jack and moved to Stellarton. Esther lived a long and fulfilling life. She and Jack raised five children. Esther was a loving and caring mother. She was active in her community and church. Esther always cared for others. She was a long time member of the Catherine Cutten Maude Rogers UCW unit of the Sharon St John United Church, Westville Chapter 24 of the OES, Stellarton Branch of the Aberdeen Hospital Auxiliary, Stellarton IODE and New Glasgow Roots Society. Over the years, Esther was a volunteer canvasser for several charitable organizations. She enjoyed china painting, playing bridge, and time with family and friends.
Esther is survived by daughters Brenda (Ron) Milne, Halifax; Nancy MacNeil, Bedford; Joan, Toronto; sons John (Phyllis), Little Harbour; and Tom, Stellarton; grandchildren Joseph, Jacqueline and Sarah MacNeil; Peter and Dr. Andrea Milne; nieces Natalie (Greg) Robart, Rothesay; Catherine (Rolando) Pellazar, Moncton; and nephew Peter (Tim) Williams, Toronto.
Esther had an enthusiastic and optimistic zest for life.? She will be remembered for her kindness, integrity and generous spirit. Special thanks from the family to caregivers Holly, Cathy, Denise, Julia, and Golda; Dr. Peter Lee and staff; Dr Andrew Douglas and Nancy Kelly-O’Sullivan; and to the Pictou County Health Authority in providing excellent care our Mom.
Funeral service was held on Thursday, September 6, at 11 AM in Stellarton at the Sharon St John United Church, with Reverend John Roy officiating.
