Obituary of Doreen MacKenzie
With saddened hearts we announce the passing of Doreen (Marshall) MacKenzie, on Saturday, December 8, 2012 at the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, NS. Born in Stellarton to parents Norman and Harriet Robson, Doreen spent her entire married life living in Westville.
After graduating from Stellarton High School, Doreen studied office management at the Maritime Business College and was employed with Fred C. Morrison Co., McRae’s Restaurant and New Glasgow Express, retiring from Michelin Tire Corp. Doreen had many interest throughout her life and took great enjoyment from the ministry of music, conducting and participating in many choirs over the years, sharing her beautiful singing voice and keyboard talent. An avid reader, Doreen loved knitting and playing cards with her many friends and always had a joke in her purse to share. Over the years, there were many happy memories created at the family cottage in Toney River where she loved to spend her summers. Doreen was a member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Westville and took an active part in her community, belonging to the I.O.O.F. and Rebekah Lodge, Michelin Retirees Club and the Westville Heritage Group.
Doreen loved being with her family and is survived by daughter Ann Holmes (Dave), MacLellan’s Brook; sons, Byron Marshall, Ontario; Gerald Marshall (Linda), Durham, and Norman Marshall, Ontario; step-children, Geraldine Cameron (Cecil), Gordon MacKenzie (Nancy), Keith MacKenzie (Connie), Marion Hale (Frank), and Bill MacKenzie, all of Westville; 26 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild; sisters Edna Bunckle (Harry) and Dena MacIntosh; and many nieces and nephews.
Doreen was pre-deceased by her first husband Vernon Marshall; second husband Gerald MacKenzie; sister Gwyn Snell and brother Roland Robson.
Her funeral service was held 2 o’clock Tuesday, December 11, 2012 from St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Westville with Rev. Jeff Lackie officiating. Burial was in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens.
