Obituary of Ed Hartling

It is with great sadness, the family announces the death of John Edward "Ed" Hartling, age 67 of Westville in the Aberdeen Hospital on December 25, 2012 surrounded by his devoted family. Ed was the son of the late Monica Hartling. He was an employee of Trenton Works for thirty five years and worked for the Chignecto School Board for seven years. He will be remembered by all who knew him as a good friend, one who loved to sing and play guitar, being an avid fan of country music and karaoke. He was also a D.J., playing music for special occasions. One of Ed’s favourite places to be (besides the Westville Legion), was with the "boys" at the camp at Eastville, enjoying hunting, fishing, and the outdoors. Here he was known by his camp friends as "Outdoor Ed". He was a dedicated member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 35 having served as President and chaired many committees, He recently received the Queen Elizabeth Jubilee Medal for his volunteer work. In his younger years, he also enjoyed a game of baseball, darts and horseshoes. Ed was a member of the Church of The Holy Name. Besides his wife of forty-eight years, Diane (Hamilton), he leaves to mourn his daughters, Wanda Fraser (Rob Rushton); Carol Hartling (Tim Martin) and son John, also eleven grand children and ten great grand children. He was predeceased by sister , Virginia and brother-in-law Richard Holt and precious grand son Jonathan. The Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 35 held a service at 6:30 at the Funeral Home. His funeral service was held 11 am Friday From Eagles Funeral Chapel, Westville with Father Donald Boudreau officiating. Donations in Ed’s memory maybe made to the Aberdeen Palliative Care or to a charity of one’s choice.
