Obituary of Ada Gillis

It is with great sadness that we the family of Ada Violet (Gallop) Gillis, announce her passing on Sunday February 17, 2013 in her residence of Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow. Born October 27, 1926, Ada is the daughter of the late John “Jack” and Blanche E (Hillier) Gallop, North Sydney. She is survived by a son, John P Gillis, Hamilton, ON, daughters, Blanche E Vokes, Cambridge, ON and Audrey M. Baxter (James), Westville; brothers, Fred Gallop (Nellie), Leitches Creek and Jack Gallop (Sandee), ON.; sister-in-law Margaret (Tweet) Munroe, North Sydney; grandsons, Tom and Christopher Vokes, Cambridge, ON; Jimmy Baxter,(Raylene) Antigonish; Phillip Baxter, (Allison) Churchville; great grandsons Blake, Antigonish and Liam, Churchville and also many nieces and nephews. Born and raised in North Sydney, Ada spent much of her adult life working in retail in Ontario before moving back to North Sydney where she was employed and retired from Rahey’s Supermarket. Upon retiring, Ada moved to Pictou County with her daughter Audrey. Ada enjoyed watching sports, fine food and most of all, visits and conversation with her family, especially her Grandchildren and most recently her Great Grandchildren. She also enjoyed her visits from Kevin MacDougall a former co-worker. Your visits were greatly appreciated as they gave Ada many joys and returned memories. Besides her parents, Ada is predeceased by her husband, Agustine “Gus” Gillis and sister Daisy in infancy. There will be no visitation or service at this time. Cremation has taken place. A Family service and burial will take place at a later date in North Sydney. Donations in Ada’s memory may be made to The Breast Cancer Society or a charity of your choice
