Obituary of Gloria Arkens

Gloria Velma Arkens, 72 , Westville Road, Westville passed away on Saturday, February 23, 2013 in Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow. Born in New Glasgow on July 14, 1940, she was a daughter of the late John and Jean (Miller) Darroch, Westville. Gloria had worked at Cameron and Frasers Ltd. for several years and later at Michelin Tire and lastly at K-Mart until her retirement. She liked to tole paint and had great enjoyment with League Bowling. Gloria will be sadly missed by her sons. Stephen (Sherry), Pugwash; Allan (Lynn Larsen), Westville Rd.; grandchildren, Christopher and Jeffrey Arkens; step grand daughter, Jodi Keenan (Anthony), and great grand children, Shelby and Aubrie Keenan. She is also survived by sisters, Audrey Reid (Dennis), Westville Rd., Viola Richards (Curtis), Ont.; Joan MacNeil (Terry), New Glasgow; brothers, John James Darroch (Linda), MacLellan’s Brook; Garfield Darroch (Ann), New Glasgow; and sisters in law, Mary MacDonald (Fulton), Nellie Guthro, and Mary Arkens and former daughter-in-law, Sherry Whytewood-Arkens. She was predeceased by her husband Henry Arkens. . Visitations were held Tuesday at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville. Her funeral service was held 1 pm Wednesday, Feb. 27 from Eagles Funeral Chapel, Westville with the Rev. Doug Pilsworth officiating. Spring Interment will be in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens. Donations in her memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia or to the Nova Scotia Heart and Stroke Foundation.
