Obituary of Chesley Canning

It is with deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of our son, brother and uncle Chet on Saturday evening. Chet faced his 22 month fight with cancer with grace, dignity and always a smile. Chet attended Westville High School and Pictou Regional Vocation School. He was a handy man in so many aspects of life. Chet enjoyed doing automotive, woodworking and landscaping projects. He enjoyed sharing his time with the New Hope Club members and driving them on excursions. He was a friend and confidant to many. His nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, cousins and other special children were Chet’s personal raison d’etre. He always had time for a walk or a talk or a smile. Chet will always be remembered and loved as a gentleman with a heart of gold. He lived by the tenet “To thine own self be true”. Throughout his challenge with cancer his courage and strength were an example for all. As Michael Watson expressed “Strong people don’t put others down, they lift them up”. Through each stage of his journey he said “This too shall pass”. We will love and miss you Till the day we met again. Open your arms God, you have a real good man coming home!
