Obituary of Douglas MacLeod

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of L. Douglas MacLeod, 86 in the Palliative Care Unit at the Aberdeen Hospital on Monday, May 27,2013. Born in Stellarton, on January 9, 1927 to the late Wm. Russell and Alice (Swantee) MacLeod. Doug’s working career began in Milltown, NB in the Cotton Mill, where he met his wife of 64 years, Treva (Long) MacLeod. Upon returning to NS, Doug was employed at The Pottery, Parkdale; MacGregor Bedding; Hawker Siddley; and the NS Dept. Of Mines. Doug was an active member of the Scotia Lodge #11, I.O.O.F. Westville. He was a member of St. Paul United Church, Westville and a former member of St. Luke’s United Church, Salt Springs. Doug was an accomplished woodworker and enjoyed the outdoors. He loved fishing, hunting, four-wheeling, and prospecting in Guysborough. He is survived by his wife, Treva and his children: Donna (Robert) Weaver, Pictou; Roger (Susan), Churchville; Trudy (Doug) Campbell, Bedford; Lori (Donald) Bourque, Dartmouth; and Wendy (AJ) Mathias, Westville Rd. His grandchildren: Michael, Christopher and Rebekah Weaver; Stephen, Travis and Ryan MacLeod; Brendon and Sean Campbell; Jesse and Zoe Bourque; Holly, Paige, Abigail and Ethan Mathias; 5 great-grandchildren; sister Violet (Karl) Johnstone, Ontario; brother Fred (Ann), West River Station; aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews. Doug was predeceased by son Bruce; brother Orville "Bill"; sister Dorothy. Visitation were held at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville on Thursday, May 30 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Scotia Lodge #11 I.O.O.F. will conducted a service at . Thursday. Funeral service was held at St. Paul United Church on Friday, May 31 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Doug Pilsworth officiating. Interment followed at Heatherdale Memorial Gardens. Donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the Aberdeen Palliative Care Unit.
