Obituary of Douglas Ogden
Douglas Ogden, 89, of Sylvester, Pictou Co., passed away in the Aberdeen Hospital on May 31, 2013 with his family members present.
Born in Trenton, he was the youngest son of the late Edmund and Roxanne (Nix) Ogden.
At an early age, he left Trenton and went to live on a farm his father purchased in Collingwood Corner, Cum. Co. At the age of 18 he went to work in the Gun Shop in Trenton doing war work. He later went on and worked in Ontario and then returned to Trenton Plant where he worked for 44 years. He was a machinist by trade and the last 22 years before his retirement, he was machine shop inspector and traveled to plants in Nova Scotia, Ontario and Quebec. Doug was a member of Durham Presbyterian Church for 55 years and served at various positions over the years. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge in River Philip, Cum. Co. For 68 years. He had a great sense of humour, loved to joke and dance. A wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, he will be sorely missed.
Survived by his loving wife of 60 years Ella (Lockhart) Ogden; children Judy (Wayne) Dineau, Truro and son Russell, Sylvester; grandsons, Brian (Amanda) Murray, Truro, Scott (Jennifer) Murray, Belmont, and great grand-daughters Callie and Gracie Murray.
He was predeceased by brothers, Larry (Ottawa), Elmer, Belleville, Ont.; sisters, Liona Bell, Thorburn, Rhoda Weed, Smythe, Conn., U.S.A.; his twin Isabel, and Verna Marie. Doug was the last surviving member of his family.
Visitations were held at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville . His funeral service was held 2 o’clock Tuesday from Eagles Funeral Chapel, Westville with the Rev. Jim Webber Cook officiating. Burial was in Durham Cemetery.Reception to follow at Durham Church Hall.. Family flowers only. Donations in his memory may be made to the Nova Scotia Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Diabetic Society, or a charity of choice.
