Obituary of Burns Muirhead
Robert “Burns Muirhead, 90 of Westville passed away on Sunday, June 9, 2013 in Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow.
A life long resident of Westville, he was a son of the late Alexander “Lala” and Chirstena (MacKenzie) Muirhead.
Burns worked underground in the Albion, Drummond and MacGregor Mines (escaping floods and explosions). After taking a machinist course in Halifa, Burns worked at the Pictou Shipyards. He later worked for twenty-five years at R. MacGregor and Son Wholesalers/ Atlantic Wholesalers. He was a member of St. Paul United Church and the Westville Heritage Society. Burns was an avid bowler and enjoyed his Friday night (St. Bees Anglican Church) and Saturday night (I.O.O.F. Hall) card parties.
He is survived by his son Gregory, Toney River; daughter-in law Carol Muirhead, Green Hill; grand daughters, Sherri Muirhead, Green Hill and Janet Piers (Chris) Fredericton and great grand children James, Connor and Aliqa Piers.
He was predeceased by his wife the former Norma Stewart, son, Harlin Burns Muirhead; siblings, Marjorie (Willis) Chaulk; Elva (Harry) Thompson; Ruth (Roy) Hale; Allister; Lawrence (Lorraine); Marguerite (Joe) Marcipont.
Burns rested at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville with visiting on Wednesday June 12 His funeral service was held 2 o’clock Thursday June 13 from St. Paul United Church, Westville with the Rev. Doug Pilsworth officiating. Burial was in the Auburn Cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to St. Paul United Church or Glen Haven Manor Recreation Fund.
