Obituary of Greta Ward

Agnes “Greta” Ward (nee Brown), Westville, left us peacefully on Tuesday afternoon July 9, 2013 with her family by her side. She was born on September 16, 1930 in Four Mile Brook and was the daughter of the late Arthur and Bertha (Creighton) Brown. Mom had many strengths but her unfailing support and love for her children no matter the situation, was equal to none. She loved to sew, was an excellent cook and crafted many beautiful quilts that will grace all our homes. After her children were grown, Mom worked at Glen Haven Manor in the housekeeping department for many years. She enjoyed a good game of cards, and over the years many hours were spent around the kitchen table with good friends Catherine and Lewis MacDonald playing well into the evenings. She could not pass up a yard sale where she found treasures especially for her children which she lovingly wrapped and gave at Christmas. She collected tea cups and saucers, but her pride and joy was in her collection of Fire King Dishes. She is survived by her devoted husband of 62 years, John “Jack” Ward, who up to the very end took wonderful care of her. She will be forever missed by her children, Jean Ward (Nigel Weaver); Mary Anne Little (Allan “Abner”); Kathy Sutherland (Keith); John Ward, (Valerie); Jim Ward (Cindy); Patti Kent (Wayne); Michelle Ward (Wayne Hale); and David Ward (Catherine). She leaves a legacy of sixteen grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren. She is survived by sister Marylyn MacLeod (Darrell) and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was predeceased by brothers Alex, Fraser, Victor and Howard Brown and a brother in infancy, sisters Elinor Oulton nd Lois Charlton Visitation were held at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville on Thursday . Her funeral is being held 2 o’clock Friday July 12, from St. Luke’s United Church, Salt Springs with Rev. Jim Webber-Cook officiating. Interment followed at the Gladstone Cemetery, Four Mile Brook. Donations in her memory can be given to the Gladstone Cemetery or a charity of choice.
