Obituary of John B. Smith
John Bernard Smith, 95 , Greenwood, Pictou County, passed away on Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at his home.
Born in Saskatchewan, he was a son of the late Alfred and Nina (Wilsack) Smith. John moved to Nova Scotia as a child.
He was a veteran of W.W. II. John worked as an electrician in the coal mines and Shipyards. He was one of the founding members of Thorburn Fire Department and was instrumental in building the first fire stations. John was a great story teller.
He will be sadly missed by daughters, Nina (James ) O’Hara, MacLellan’s Brook; Jane (Lloyd) Kenny, White Hill; sons: Keith (Marion) Smith, Thorburn and Alfred (Jeanie) Smith, Greenwood, 16 grand children and 20 great grand children.
He was predeceased by his wife, Veronica (Parsons).

Visitations were held on Thursday from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville. His funeral service was held 11 am. Friday at Eagles Funeral Chapel, Westville with Rev. Jeff Lackie officiating. Burial was in Castle Hill Cemetery, MacLellan’s Brook. Family flowers only, donations in his memory may be made to the Northumberland Veteran’s Unit.
