Obituary of Fred Doucette

Frederick Joseph Doucette, age 84 of Westville, Pictou County passed away on August 16th. Born on April 8th, 1929 he was a son of the late Edmund and Catherine (Cyr) Doucette. He was a coal miner for most of his working life and retired from his mining career as a mine inspector for the Province of Nova Scotia. He loved his job at the Drummond pit and the men he worked with. He also spent many years helping local miners train for Draeger rescue work. For many years was a choir member of the choir for the Church of the Holy Name, Westville. Fred’s passions were family, friends, singing, horses and baseball. He is survived by his children: Patricia (Morgan) Anderson, Terry (Debra) Doucette, Thomas Doucette, and Lorna (Wayne) Deighton. Dad took great satisfaction from watching and helping his grand children grow: Morgan Anderson, John and Tara Doucette, Joel, Sean and Ben Deighton, as well as Ashley, Kelsey and Danielle Doucette. He was a proud “Pops” to his four great grandchildren: Carter and Spencer Anderson as well as Campbell and Summer Doucette. Fred is also survived by sisters: Dorothy, Loraine (Ray) Cyr, Sylvia (David) Eagles, Carolyn (Dana) Cameron and brothers Robert (Sharon), and Michael(Carol). He was predeceased by the love of his life for over 50 years, his wife , Anne (Markie) , his sister Helen and brother Ed. Dad and Family wish to thank Dr. Tim Woodford for his care, assistance, compassion and support. In addition, appreciation is directed to Warren Daury for his support and care during Dad’s final months. There will be no visitation by request. A memorial service will take place on Tuesday August 20th at the Church of the Holy Name, Westville, NS at 11:00. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Eagles Funeral Home, Westville , NS.
