Obituary of Johnson MacNeil
Johnson Alexander "Red" MacNeil, 82, Pleasant Street, New Glasgow passed away suddenly on Wednesday, June 24, 2009 at his residence.
Born in Westville, he was a son of the late Cameron and Martha (Johnson) MacNeil.
Johnson began working at a young age and eventually joined the service and served in the Koran War. He traveled the world while working on ships and after returning to Nova Scotia worked in various sawmills including Musquodoboit, retiring from William Brothers Mill, Barney’s River. He was a member of the Church of The Holy Name.
He is survived by a niece, Nina MacNeil, Westville; nephew, Roland (Sharon) MacNeil, Fredericton; N.B. He is also survived by his long time companion, Helen Smith, New Glasgow and her family.
Besides his parents, Johnson was predeceased by a sister, Doris, and brothers, Cameron "Cammie", Harry and Bernard "Bernie".
Visitations will be held on Thursday from 7-9 pm at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville. His funeral service will be held on Friday at 11 am from Eagles Funeral Chapel, Westville with Father Ray Huntley officiating.. Burial will be in the Holy Name Cemetery, Westville. Donations in his memory may be made to the Nova Scotia Heart and Stroke Foundation or to a charity of one’s choice
