Obituary of Hester Holmes
Hester Juliet Holmes, age 90 years of Westville, passed away Friday, October 18, 2013 in Shiretown Nursing Home, Pictou.
Born in Westville, she was a daughter of the late Chester and Agnes (Lochead) Wood.
She was a member of St. Paul United Church, Westville, and a member of the Marion Unit U.C.W. She was a foster mother to 35 children and worked at Riverview Adult Centre as a housekeeper until retirement in 1985.
Hester is survived by her son-in-law Harry Kardish; grandson Nathan Kardish (Natasha); grand-daughter, Sharon Shepley; great-grandchildren, Reese, Spencer, and Sophie Kardish; Ian, Cameron, and Shane Adamson; sister-in-law Norma Wood, several nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and nephews; and a number of very good friends.
She was predeceased by husband, John A; daughter Ruth Kardish; son John Robert in infancy; sisters, Ruth, Margaret “Marmie” Croft, Edna Miller, Rosetta Mae, and Ella Jean; brothers, John, Albert “Bertie” and Keith Wood.
By request there will be no visitation or funeral. A public committal service will be held 1 o’clock Wednesday at MacPherson’s Mills Cemetery with the Rev. Doug Pilsworth officiating. Donations in her memory may be made to the Diabetic Society, MacPherson’s Mills Cemetery, or a charity of choice.
