Obituary of David LeClair
David J. LeClair, M.W.O. (Retired), age 82, Westville Road, passed away on Monday, October 21, 2013, at his home .
He was born in Quebec City, the son of the late Joseph and Margaret (Folsom) LeClair.
He moved to Niagara/St. Catharines area at an early age. He joined the R.C.N. Aviation Branch, July 1950 where he served in various air squadrons at CFB Shearwater and CFB Lahr, Germany. He served on both HMCS Magnificent and HMCS Bonaventure. In 1972 he was posted as a Helicopter Detachment Chief, serving on HMCS Ottawa, Preserver, and Protecteur. He retired from military service in September 1975. In the fall of 1975 he joined Bechtel Canada Ltd. as a Safety Representative on major construction projects throughout Canada, retiring in the fall of 1990. With his wife Betty, they purchased a home to spend winters on the Treasure Coast of Florida. They spent twenty-four years enjoying the sunny weather and meeting many fine friends. During retirement, he and Betty traveled many times to Europe.
Surviving are his wife Betty (Joyce); his son Richard (Laurie), Flin Flon, Manitoba; two grandsons, Lucas and Carter; and a special nephew Stephen Highfield, Georgetown, Ontario.
He was predeceased by his first wife Ruth (Blagdon); and sister Dawn Marie Highfield, Bracebridge, Ontario.
His family received visitors on Friday at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville. A private family service was held . Donations in his memory may be made to the Shearwater Aviation Museum.
