Obituary of Julia MacKenzie
Frances Julia” MacKenzie, age 85, of Millbrook, Pictou County, passed away on Monday, October 28, 2013 at her home surrounded by her family, after a brief illness.
Born in Greenwich, Nova Scotia, on Dec. 3, 1927, she was a daughter of the late Tiley Lawson Hancock and Kathleen Frances (Golar) Hancock.
Julia was a member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Gairloch; the Church Aid; and Women’s Missionary Society (WMS) for 30 years, then became a Life Member. Julia loved her years with her sheep and lambs, loved to knit, crochet, and sew. She spent many enjoyable hours, gardening, listening to music and singing. She always had something in the kitchen to have with that cup of tea. She was famous for her homemade rolls at all the church suppers. Family meant everything to her, especially her grandchildren.
She will be sadly missed by her daughters, Elizabeth “Betty”, Sault Ste. Marie, ON; Frances, Millbrook; Mary Rose Smith (Dan), Sylvester; Jean Battist (Dennis), Scotch Hill; Willow Burgess (Brian), Durham; sons, John “Jack”, at home; William “Bill” (Gail), Onslow Mtn.; ten grand children, nine great-grandchildren; brothers, Nick “Enick” (Madelein), Welland, ON; Jim “Donald” (Nancy), Sault Ste. Marie; sister Geraldine Hilda; several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband William “Bill” ; brothers, John, Claude, and Hugh and Lesley in infancy.
Visitations were held Wednesday at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville. Her funeral service was Thursday from St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, Gairloch with the Rev. Gary Tonks and Bonnie Langille officiating. Burial will be in Gairloch Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations in her memory may be made to St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, the V.O.N. or the Aberdeen Palliative Care Society.
