Obituary of Struan Wadden

Struan George Wadden, age 101, Greenwood Street, Westville, passed away on, Thursday, October 31, 2013 at his home. Born in Westville, he was the son of the late William and Bernice (Rundle) Wadden. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. A veteran of the WWII, he served in Italy as a member of the West Nova Scotia Regiment. Following the war, he was employed by Spencer Motors Limited and later Lou Kiley’s Pontiac Buick where he was a valued member of the staff. He was a long time member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #35, Westville and the Knights of Pythias. He was a faithful member of St. Paul United Church, Westville. Struan had a passionate love for music, spending many hours entertaining family and friends with his piano playing at his home, as well as at his summer residence on Sinclair’s Island. He was predeceased by Isabel (Slater) Wadden, his wife of 68 years, and his 4 brothers, John, Edwin, James, and Samuel; 2 sisters, Anne Munro and Ethel Hale. He is survived by several nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly, Edna Palmer (Donald), Linda Carr (Edward), Sharon Martin, John Wadden, Candace MacDonnell, all of Pictou Co.; Struan Hale (Beverley), Truro, Clarrie Hale (Pat), New Castle, NB, Lois Arnold (Gerald), Bedford, and Carolyn Graham, Calgary. Visitations will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Saturday from Eagles Funeral Home, Westville. His funeral service will be held 2 o’clock Sunday from Eagles Funeral Chapel, Westville with Rev. Doug Pilsworth officiating. The Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 35 will conduct a service at 6:30 at the Funeral Home. Interment will be in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens. Memorial donations to Struan’s memory may be made to St. Paul United Church, Westville, or the S.P.C.A., Granton.
