Obituary of Elizabeth Megeney
Elizabeth Brannagh Megeney, age 91, Stellarton, passed away November 14, 2013 at Valley View Villa surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Armadale, Scotland to parents George and Elizabeth (Brannagh) Reekie.
She moved to Canada with her family at 5 years of age and became a life-long resident of Stellarton. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Elizabeth worked at the Adult Residential Centre in Riverton for many years, before becoming employed by Glen Haven Manor, from where she retired in 1981. She was an active member of Stellarite Seniors for many years and the Senior’s Bowling League. She was also an avid volunteer for town functions and Senior festivals. She received the Volunteer of the Year award from the Town of Stellarton in 1992. She was a member of Seventh Day Adventist Church, New Glasgow, where she also volunteered a lot of her time for many years. She was a resident of Birch Hill Seniors for 33 years and for half of those years, ran the Monday night card parties.
Elizabeth is survived by sons George (Anderine), Dexter (Karen), Stellarton, Robert (Pat), Dartmouth, John (Karen), Alberta; daughters, Bydie Cyr (Bill), Alberta, Joni Mabey (John), Westville, Marie Lays (Mike), BC, and Jean Beaudry, Stellarton; 28 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandsons.
She was predeceased by her husband George; twin daughters Nancy Sinclair and Heather MacDonald; son-in-law Bill Beaudry; 2 grandsons, Michael MacDonald, in infancy and Cpl. Kevin Megeney; great grandson Levi Cyr; as well as brothers, Jim, George, Donald “Red”, Alonzo, Harry, John and Bill Reekie, and sisters, Christina MacKay, Rose Davidson, and Isabel MacKenzie.
Visitations were held Saturday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville. Her funeral service was held 11 a.m. Sunday November 17 from Eagles Funeral Chapel, Westville. Burial was in Pine Grove Cemetery, Oxford. Family flowers only. Donations in her memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice. www.eaglesfuneralhome.ca
